Giraffe

The Giraffe is the tallest animal in the animal kingdom.
It is also the only animal that is incapable of making any sound.
Both male and female have a small set of horns on their heads.
Giraffe’s preferred habitat is among tall trees in the open savannahs.
When Giraffe needs to drink water, its long neck becomes a hindrance .
To overcome this, the Giraffe stands at the water’s edge with its legs set
wide a part and bends over to drink.
Giraffes used to live in herds but because of the destruction of their natural habitat,
they have got used to leading solitary lives. Giraffes produce one calf at a time.
These animals can run fast as 30 kms per hour.

Tomatoes

The people of the Damahana village cultivate vegetables. Tomato and Beans have a special place out of the vegetables they cultivate. The tomato cultivation has no special period of the year. But beans are cultivated in April and November
. The rain is not suitable for tomato like for the beans. The Beans cultivated in Balangoda has a good price and demand in
 the market.
There are different types of tomatoes and some plants are about four feet in height. Sticks are used to help the tomato pla
nt. Tomato seeds are used to cultivate. A good water supply and spreading fertilizers at the correct time will let us have a
good harvest from the tomato cultivation.

fields

The farmer grows paddy in the field. Our main food is rice. We get our rice from the paddy plant.
The farmer is a very important man, because he grows paddy for all.

First he loosens the soil of the field with the help of buffaloes and a plough . Then he prepares the field by making it muddy. Paddy grows well on a muddy field. The farmer adds manure to the field to make the soil more fertile.(give reason for why he

The paddy (mature is the right word)matures after three to four months.
The farmer is very happy then. He invites his friends to help him. They get together and harvest the field.
After harvesting, the farmer brings (it is the paddy he harvested so use “the”)the paddy home.
